Golden Globe winner, three times EMMY nominee and BIFA winner JOANNE FROGGATT is best known as the much-loved housemaid ‘Anna' in the internationally renowned and BAFTA, Golden Globe and Emmy award-winning series DOWNTON ABBEY.
This Autumn she takes on the role of the first ever female serial killer in the true to life story of notorious poisoner ‘Mary Ann Cotton’ in DARK ANGEL. A two part series for ITV she plays a once loving mother who, faced with abject poverty, ruthlessly pursues her desires and a better life through adultery, bigamy, fraud and murder.
Joanne also earns her first executive producer credit in STARFISH, in which she also stars as the wife of a man who, after contracting a near-fatal disease, struggles to face the devastating impact on their everyday lives. Premiering at Edinburgh last month, Screen International praised her performance in this ‘tough and heartbreaking story’.
In November she then joins the cast of A STREET CAT NAMED BOB, the adaptation of James Bowen’s best-selling novel of same name, starring Luke Treadaway. In this true story of James Bowen, a busker and recovering drug addict who sees his life transformed with the help of a stray ginger cat. Joanne plays Bowen’s support worker.
She has also completed filming the feature ONE LAST THING with Wendell Pierce, set for release next year, as well as Haifaa Al-Mansour’s A STORM IN THE STARS with Elle Fanning, Maisie Williams and Bel Powley.
Joanne won a British Independent Film Award as ‘Best Newcomer’ for her role in IN OUR NAME, the tale of a soldier returning from the Iraq war and struggling to reintegrate into her former civilian life. She also starred alongside Eddie Marsan in the acclaimed independent feature STILL LIFE and took on a supporting role in the adaptation of Irvine Welsh’s FILTH opposite James McAvoy and Jamie Bell.
